Why Take Improv Classes with Me?

For the past 24 years, I have been a teacher, a coach, a director, and artistic director of improv, sketch comedy, and screenwriting.

In 2001, I founded the Impatient Theatre Co. in Toronto, during which time performers I have taught and coached have appeared on Game Changers (on Dropout.tv), White Orchid, Umbrella Academy, Baroness Von Sketch, The Sketchersons, were featured headliners at multiple improv and comedy festivals throughout North America, including the Chicago Improv Festival, Memphis Improv Festival, Vancouver Improv Festival, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, Orlando Improv Festival, the Del Close Marathon in NYC, and have opened for Weird Al Yankovic on tour.

I taught intensives and master classes in improvisation at those very same festivals. Your dad’s favourite comedian, Emo Philips, once told me that my weekend intensive workshop at NCCAF was the best class he had ever taken in his whole life. I was even the artistic director of improvisation at Hamilton’s Staircase Theatre in 2004. In 2013, I shuttered the doors of the ITC and focused my energy into being a full-time photographer.

While my primary focus of energy is now my photography business, I still love teaching and I still love improv. I currently volunteer my time to coach the McMaster Improv Team at McMaster University and act a consultant for them in structuring a club that can build and grow in a progressive manner over many years and withstand changes in leadership to build a sustainable club.

Street Parking: There is plenty of street parking on Landsdowne Avenue, right near the studio. Frequently, the street parking can be blocked off due to film and TV crews filming on-site at The Cotton Factory. If that is the case, there is plenty of parking in the back lot.

Back Lot: There is a large, dedicated parking lot for The Cotton Factory tenants and guests. Enter the lot from Biggar Avenue. Once you are parked, you can exit the lot by foot through an access gate on Landsdowne Avenue.
